STORIES

At the beginning of 2024, Walkabout Civil started operation with a single truck and side tipper. Walkabout Civil had plans to employ 2-4 locals from remote communities to provide them with experience in the civil industry. However, we did not anticipate the rapid growth, which exceeded out initial expectations.

By mid-2024, Walkabout Civil expanded the fleet to include nine trucks, twelve side tippers, three rollers, three graders, five water tankers, along with additional ancillary plant. The increase in workload and resources enabled Walkabout Civil to provide more employment opportunities. With the company continuing to grow, it simultaneously managed multiple worksites.

After the wet season in remote QLD, Walkabout Civil completed the emergency grading giving residents access to travel to the NT.

In 2024, Walkabout Civil successfully completed restoration works on the Old Doomadgee Rd, marking the first completion of additional kilometres in several years before wet season approached. Our dedication to completing the restoration led us to assist other contractors in the community to complete their projects before wet season.

Walkabout Civil have operated incident free in the 2024 season. We contribute this to our team’s serious approach to safety and thru positive communication with the work teams.

We maintain our commitment to supporting local remote communities by spending and employing locally. This spend not only supports local business but also gives more job opportunities to the community to work within these businesses.

In 2025, we aim to increase our operations and equipment to generate additional job opportunities, as well as provide training and operational certificates for remote communities. Walkabout Civil hope you will work with or alongside us in 2025.

Walkabout Civil have done all of this while still respecting the traditional owners of the land as well as respecting employees cultural heritage and way of life.

Closing comments from the directors:

“It is hard to believe that you can start a season with a small game plan and finish the year so strong and create so many job opportunities across remote communities. This success story does not belong to Walkabout Civil nor does it belong to any individual, this story is about the team work and success that comes from the people who worked with Walkabout and their passion to create something special, I thank you all for this”
